Meet the Pastor

Pastor Gary Evensen was born in the Bronx, New York, the grandson of Italian and Norwegian immigrants. In May of 1980 his life changed when he came to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and was filled with the power of the Holy Ghost. Shortly after his conversion he met and married his beloved wife Milly, a gifted and anointed gospel singer and pianist. Brother Evensen began preaching the gospel shortly before his marriage and is an ordained minister affiliated with the United Pentecostal Church International, having held ministerial credentials with the UPCI since 1984.
Brother Evensen has served as Deacon, Assistant to the Pastor, Assistant Pastor, Co-Pastor and Pastor in 9 different locales. He served as the District Secretary/Treasurer of the New Jersey Metro District of the United Pentecostal Church International and served on the NJ Metro District Board for 16 years. He also served on the faculty and Board of Directors for the Apostolic Leadership Institute for over a decade.
Brother and Sister Evensen have 3 grown children and have resided in Bergen County New Jersey since December 1993.
In May 2002, Pastor and Sister Evensen began to feel the leading of the Lord once again to pioneer a new church, but this time in the Metro New Jersey Area. Pastor and Sister Evensen previously worked in Missions work in Southwest Oklahoma, among the Kiowa Indians and in Upstate New York. God began to open doors in the Secaucus area and with the help of Maricar Martinez found the location where we started holding services in 2002. In 2007 the NJUPC had an offer to share the property we now reside in on 51 Centre Ave in Secaucus.
Through the friendship and aid of Pastor Robert Carter the North Jersey United Pentecostal Church began holding its first services in August 2002 at the Holiday Inn in Secaucus New Jersey.
The church was a successful start up and in May 2003 was incorporated under the laws of the State of New Jersey and became a formal 501(c3) non-profit organization recognized by the federal government.
